Degradable Claims on Plastic Products in California

California law restricts the use of degradable-related claims about plastic products. The law ensures that consumers receive accurate information about the post-disposal environmental impacts of these plastic products. 

California law prohibits the sale of products that:

• Are labeled with the terms "biodegradable", "degradable", "decomposable", or any form of those terms
• Imply that the item will break down, fragment, biodegrade, or decompose in a landfill or other environment
